Rein orchids are plants with erect, leafy stems, 15-70 cm tall.

Flowers are mostly white, but also yellowish or greenish, with an upper hood, 2 wings and a lower lip and spur. Flowers are growing in long, spike-like clusters.

Leaves are alternate, lance-shaped, gradually smaller up on the stem.

Fruits are erect, elliptic capsules.
